The aim of this project is to finance the construction and operation of a heat storage unit developed by the Kyoto Group, the “Heatcube”, on the site of food manufacturer KALL Ingredients, in Hungary. The 10MWe/ 7 MWth Heatcube provides balancing services to the power grid by loading up with electricity at times dominated by intermittent renewable energies, and then stores the heat generated in the form of molten salts to provide steam for KALL Ingredients’ corn processing operations.
Kyotherm is financing the entire construction costs of the Heatcube together with Energiabörse, a minority shareholder and aggregator for the project. The partners will sell the steam generated to KALL Ingredients under a 15-year heat supply contract.
Kyoto Group will develop, build and operate the Heatcube for 15 years.
The Heatcube will reduce KALL Ingredients’ CO2 emissions by around 7,400 tonnes per year.
