The waste heat recovered from the ArcelorMittal industrial site will notably supply part of the city\u2019s housing<\/em><\/p>\n

Saint-Ch\u00e9ly-d\u2019Apcher, May 30, 2017 \u2013 <\/strong>ArcelorMittal, Kyotherm, Schneider Electric and the city of Saint-Ch\u00e9ly-d\u2019Apcher (South of France) disclose the launch of a waste heat recovery project that will allow to save 4,000 tons of CO2<\/sub>\u00a0emissions per year, which is equivalent to taking 2,000 new vehicules off the roads. This heat is generated by the industrial process and would be lost otherwise. The project is due to be commissioned in the first half of 2018. The investment amounts to \u20ac5.6m, it is borne by Kyotherm and benefits from subsidies from the ADEME (French national Agency for Environment and Energy Management) and from the Occitanie Region.<\/p>\n

The waste heat recovery project<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The project involves recovering heat at a temperature of 1,000\u00b0C lost by the ArcelorMittal steel annealing oven, and reusing it for the city district heating network and for the plant needs (process heat and space heating). Heat exchangers, pipes and automation devices will be provided by Schneider Electric to collect up to 4.8 MW of heat. This energy will then be distributed by a 1.2 km long network and will provide for the needs of the equivalent of 1,150 housing units.<\/p>\n

The existing oil-fired boilers will also be replaced by a 4 MW high-efficiency natural gas heating plant. In total, the project will allow to improve the carbon footprint of a 17 GWh yearly heat consumption,\u00a0by reducing the CO2<\/sub>\u00a0emissions by 4,000 tons per year.<\/strong><\/p>\n
